Description
“SWEETNEST” transforms discarded eggshells into a meditation on strength and fragility. These pieces highlight the intricate textures and cracks of shells — symbolizing the overlooked beauty in marginalised communities. Each fragment, though delicate, tells a story of endurance and captures the quiet poetry of eggshells through abstract macro photography. The play of light and shadow reveals hidden patterns—faces, landscapes, and stories—emerging from the shells’ curves. Inspired by David’s unique way of seeing things with pareidolia. All eggshells are r é n’s eggs.

The Chef / The Maker
David Leung (b. Hong Kong) is a contemporary artist and photographer renowned for his unique and surreal style of food photography - Symmetrical Pareidolism. He is one of the few artists who has turned food into a medium for artistic expression and has become a prominent figure in the field of food art/ photography in Hong Kong. His works have reached international audiences, including those in Singapore, Japan, France, Malaysia, Thailand, and Switzerland.
By exploring the micro-views of his favourite hobby, dining, through the lens of the pareidolia phenomenon, he finds a sanctuary as he finds the anomalies and amplifies them to create a series of surreal and dreamlike images that challenge our perception of reality. He then transports viewers to a world of imagination of wonder as they discover the hidden faces in the ordinary dishes that surround us every day.
“In every shell, a promise; in every nest, a future.”
– David Leung
